An Ode to the theatre...

Do you fancy yourself a bit of a writer?  Would you like to have your work read out at the opening of our new Red Earth Arts Precinct?  We are looking for people to write our Ode to the Theatre.

Sounds weird doesn’t it?  An ode is traditionally written to be performed at the opening of a new theatre, a bit like cracking a bottle of champagne over the bow of a ship before it is pushed out to sea.  So we are asking you, the people of Karratha to put your thinking caps on and write a suitable welcome for your new venue.  To give you an idea of what an Ode says we have been given permission by Ivan King to show you the Ode he wrote for the opening of the State Theatre Centre in Perth (download here).

We are looking for entries to come in by 30th March 2018. There are three categories, primary school, high school and an open category with a winner selected from each.

An ODE can be in any style of poetry, it can be rap or limerick, iambic pentameter or free form.  You may notice that the style of Ivan’s piece is not exactly reflective of the Pilbara lifestyle.  So let your imagination run free and pen us some suitable words!

The selected Odes will receive two tickets to the opening and of course, instant fame! We will have a professional actor to deliver them on the night.

To enter please submit your Ode online here by the 30th March 2018.
