Judging Criteria
Entries will be judged based on the following key qualities:
Best Edible Garden
- Variety and health of edible plants
- Smart garden layout and use of space
- Composting and soil health
- Sustainable, organic practices
- Overall look and feel
Best Business / Not-for-Profit Garden
- Benefit to staff, clients or the community
- Visual impact and presentation
- Creative use of space or materials
- Care and maintenance
- Eco-friendly and waterwise features
Best Residential Garden
- Design and layout
- Range and condition of plants
- General upkeep and presentation
- Sustainability and waterwise practices
- Personal touches and creativity
Most Waterwise Garden
- Use of drought-tolerant or native plants
- Smart irrigation or watering systems
- Mulching and moisture-saving methods
- Water reuse (e.g. rainwater or greywater)
- Overall garden efficiency
Mayor’s Choice
Awarded to the best overall garden that stands out for its impact, creativity, and sustainability.
Prizes
- 4 x Category winners – Bokashi One Composting System and $400 Try Local Voucher

Conditions of Entry
Entry is free for the City of Karratha's 2026 Ready, Set, Grow Gardening Competition.
Eligibility:
All gardens entered must be located within the City of Karratha local government area.
Acceptance of Terms:
By entering, you agree to the following Conditions of Entry:
- Providing access to your garden (upon request) for judging purposes during normal business hours.
- Allowing your name, suburb/townsite, and photographs of your garden to be used for judging and promotional purposes.
- All photographs remain the property of the City of Karratha and may be used in future promotional material

Key Dates:
- Entries open: 2 June 2026
- Entries close: 28 June 2026
- Judging: 27 to 31 July
- Winners announced at a presentation evening featuring special guest Costa Georgiadis from ABC's Gardening Australia
Publicity and Promotion:
- Winners will be announced and featured on the City of Karratha Facebook page.
- By entering, you consent to images of you, your garden or your property being used for competition promotion and marketing by the City of Karratha.
Changes or Cancellation:
- The City of Karratha reserves the right to cancel, modify, or suspend the competition (including altering categories or prizes) at any time, at its sole discretion.
- If required, a prize may be substituted with another of equal value.

The City of Karratha and associated parties accept no responsibility for any injury, loss, or damage to property as a result of participation in the competition.
Privacy:
- Personal information provided in the entry form is collected for the purpose of administering the competition.
- Information will be disclosed only to the competition judges for judging and prize distribution purposes.
- If you choose not to provide the requested information, your entry will not be processed.
