Bayview Road Culvert Replacement

Bayview Road is an important local connection for residents, schools, park users and daily commuters. The City of Karratha will be undertaking essential works to replace an ageing culvert located east of Cattrall Park in Pegs Creek, to ensure safe and reliable drainage infrastructure into the future.

The project will involve the full replacement of the existing culvert, which has reached the end of its service life. Works will include:

  • Removal of the existing culvert
  • Installation of new, fit-for-purpose drainage infrastructure
  • Road reconstruction and reinstatement following installation
  • Associated traffic management and safety measures

Bayview Road will be temporarily closed for up to six weeks to enable the safe completion of these works. The City will actively work with the contractor to minimise the closure period wherever possible and reduce disruption to the community.

During this time, all traffic will be diverted via Dampier Road. Road users, particularly around nearby schools, should expect increased traffic and are encouraged to plan ahead and allow extra travel time.

While some disruption is expected, these works are essential to maintain long-term road safety and infrastructure reliability in the area. The City will continue to provide updates before and during construction and will work closely with residents, schools and local businesses to minimise impacts where possible.

Preliminary construction activities are expected to commence in June 2026, subject to final contractor scheduling and site conditions.

Why does Bayview Road need to be closed?

The existing culvert is ageing and must be replaced for safety and long-term road reliability. A full closure is required to safely complete the work and protect both workers and road users.

How long will the closure last?

The road closure is expected to be in place for up to six weeks, which represents the maximum anticipated duration and is subject to the contractor’s construction schedule. The City will work closely with the appointed contractor to minimise the length of the closure wherever possible. Confirmed timeframes and any updates will be communicated regularly.

What are the detour routes?

All traffic will be redirected via Dampier Road. Signage will be in place to guide drivers safely around the closure.

Will this affect school drop-offs and pick-ups?

Yes, traffic near Pegs Creek schools may increase. Please allow extra travel time and follow detour signage to ensure student safety.

Can residents access their properties during construction?

Access to homes and businesses along Bayview Road will be maintained where possible. Residents will receive advance notice of any temporary changes.

Will the road be open at night or on weekends?

Bayview Road will remain closed for the duration of the works, 24/7, to allow safe and efficient construction.

Why can’t the work be done in stages to keep the road open?

Due to the location and nature of the culvert replacement, partial access is not safe. A full closure ensures the work can be done safely and completed on time.

Will there be updates during the project?

Yes, The City will provide regular updates on progress via Facebook and the City website.
