Community Priorities

The 2026/27 Annual Budget invests in the projects, facilities and services that matter most to our community.

Feedback from the Annual Community Survey highlighted strong support for increased youth activities and services, improved community facilities, enhanced parks and public spaces, better roads and transport infrastructure, and continued investment in community events.

Youth Services and Facilities

Creating opportunities for young people to live active, connected and fulfilling lives remains a key priority.

This year's budget continues investment in projects and initiatives including:

  • Waterpark feasibility study
  • Expanded arts programs
  • Karratha Bike Park
  • Wickham Bike Park
  • Wickham Youth Recreation Area
  • Roebourne Recreation Precinct

Community Facilities

The budget continues to invest in programs and spaces that strengthen community connections and celebrate the unique identity of our region.

Key initiatives include:

  • Community grants program
  • Community events and cultural initiatives
  • Implementation of the Arts and Culture Strategy
  • Development of an Events and Activation Strategy
  • Planning for a future Art Gallery and Community Centre
     

Investing in Parks, Facilities and Public Spaces

The City is continuing to improve the quality, accessibility and longevity of community infrastructure through investment in:

  • Increased service levels
  • Shade provision across public spaces
  • Playground renewals
  • Boat ramp upgrades
  • Ongoing renewal of community facilities across the region
     

Improving Roads and Transport

More than $5 million has been allocated to road and footpath renewal projects to support safer and more efficient travel throughout the City.

The budget includes:

  • Road and footpath renewals
  • Bathgate Road upgrades
  • Neilson Place upgrades
  • Traffic safety improvements
  • Continued advocacy to secure International Airport status for Karratha Airport
