City backs Tones and I concert

The City of Karratha is supporting a major live music event featuring Australian pop star Tones and I, with the singer set to perform at the Red Earth Arts Precinct Amphitheatre on 10 March as part of her Western Australia tour.

Council endorsed a motion to provide $50,000 sponsorship to event promoter Macro Music through the City’s Major Events Sponsorship and Attraction Program.

The Karratha show comes after a viral social media campaign by Tones and I in January inviting regional and local communities across Australia to advocate online to host an affordable, all-ages concert.

While Ingham, Queensland was ultimately selected to host the original $10 concert, Karratha’s extraordinary grassroots campaign and second-place finish demonstrated the strength of local support and helped put Karratha firmly on the radar for a Tones and I performance.

City of Karratha Mayor Daniel Scott said the community deserved enormous credit for getting behind the campaign.

“We recognise there has been some disappointment that Karratha wasn’t selected for the original $10 concert, particularly after the incredible support our community showed during the campaign,” Mayor Scott said.

“But that support clearly made an impression. Tones and I and her team continued working to find a way to bring a show to Karratha, and we now get to experience one of Australia’s biggest artists live, right here at home.

"We’ve heard the feedback around ticket prices and the venue, and we’ll make sure that feedback is heard. But this is still a fantastic outcome for Karratha and something worth celebrating.”

The City will continue to work with event organisers to support the delivery of the concert and advocate for the best possible experience for the Karratha community.
