Walkington Award supports Olivia’s physiotherapy ambitions

A passion for helping others has earned Karratha student Olivia Caspersz the 2026 Walkington Award.

For more than 40 years, the Walkington Award has been presented to a City of Karratha Year 12 student to support their tertiary studies at a recognised institution.

The prize, worth $10,000, is named after the late Dr. Al Walkington Foundation Director of the Karratha College (North Regional TAFE).
Olivia plans to use the award to help her study physiotherapy at a University in Perth. She has a long-term focus of using physiotherapy to positively impact the lives of others in regional areas.

Her achievements include excellence across academics, leadership, school contribution and community involvement. As Head Girl, she has provided leadership within the school while also making a significant contribution to community causes.

She helped establish and drive the school's inaugural World's Greatest Shave campaign, helping to raise approximately $27,000 for charity. Beyond school, Olivia contributes extensively through coaching, officiating, volunteering and community sport administration.

City of Karratha Mayor Daniel Scott said the Walkington Award has a proud history of recognising students who excelled in their education and contributed to their communities.

“Olivia is a fantastic all-round candidate and it’s great to see her recognised with this award,” Mayor Scott said.

“She has worked hard in her studies, taken on leadership roles at school and made a real contribution to the wider community.

“From helping raise $27,000 through the World’s Greatest Shave campaign to coaching junior basketball and volunteering for tree-planting, Olivia has shown a genuine commitment to helping others and her community.

“We’re pleased the Walkington Award can support her as she takes the next step towards studying physiotherapy, and we wish her every success in achieving her ambitions.”
