The City of Karratha congratulates local community members recognised in the 2026 King's Birthday Honours for their outstanding contributions to Western Australia and the Pilbara.
Former Member for Pilbara and long-time regional advocate Brendon Grylls has been appointed a Member of the Order of Australia (AM) for significant service to the people and Parliament of Western Australia, and to the community.
Mr Grylls served as Member for Pilbara from 2013 to 2017 and held a number of senior ministerial portfolios, including Regional Development and Lands. He has also made significant contributions to community organisations and industry across the Pilbara.
Point Samson resident Anna Vitenbergs has been awarded a Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) for service to conservation and the environment.
Mrs Vitenbergs has dedicated decades to environmental research and conservation, particularly through sea turtle monitoring and protection programs across the Pilbara and Western Australia. She has also made an enduring contribution to preserving local Indigenous and regional history.
City of Karratha Mayor Daniel Scott said the honours recognised two individuals who have made lasting contributions to the Pilbara.
"On behalf of the City of Karratha, I congratulate Brendon and Anna on this well-deserved recognition,” Mayor Scott said.
“Their dedication, leadership and commitment to our region have left a lasting impact on our community and beyond.
"These honours highlight the remarkable people who call the Pilbara home and the significant contributions they make to regional Australia."
