Community invited to shape future of Karratha’s sporting precincts

The City of Karratha is calling on the community to help shape the future of sport and recreation.

Following the completion of the Community Infrastructure Plan 2025–2035, the City has commenced development of coordinated masterplans for the Karratha Leisureplex, Bulgarra Sporting Precinct, and a proposed new rectangular sports precinct adjacent to Kevin Richards Memorial Oval in Millars Well.

Stage 1 community consultation is now underway through the What We Make It platform for the three major sporting precinct masterplans.

This focuses on gaining insight into how often residents and clubs use the local sporting facilities, what they value, and what enhancements they would like to see.

City of Karratha Mayor Daniel Scott said developing the three masterplans concurrently would ensure a strategic, whole-of-city approach to planning for sport and recreation.

“By planning these precincts together, we can take a coordinated approach that makes the most of our existing assets, identifies opportunities for shared facilities and ensures we’re meeting the needs of our growing community,” Cr Scott said.

“This is about creating modern, accessible and well-designed sporting spaces that support participation at all levels, from grassroots to elite.”

Mayor Scott said community input would play a critical role in ensuring the plans reflect how facilities are used and where improvements are needed.

“We want to hear directly from the people who use these facilities; sporting clubs, players, families and supporters,” he said.

“Your feedback will help us understand what’s working well, what could be improved, and where we should focus our investment over the next decade.”
