Three highly respected independent members with extensive experience have been appointed to the City’s Audit Risk and Improvement Committee.
Council has appointed Phillip Draber as the independent Presiding Member, and David Price as the independent Deputy Presiding Member.
Shire of East Pilbara Chief Executive Steven Harding has also been appointed independent Deputy of the Presiding Member, in the event Mr Draber is unable to attend a meeting.
The independent members will be joined on the panel by City of Karratha Mayor Daniel Scott, Deputy Mayor Jodie Swaffer as well as councillors Geoff Harris and Tony Simpson.
Mr Draber has served as The Returned & Services League WA State Treasurer, and worked as Director of Risk Management & Audit Assurance at Edith Cowan University and was Director of Internal Audit at Murdoch University.
Mr Price, meanwhile, has an extensive background and knowledge in management, governance, planning, and development. He was previously employed as the Chief Executive Officer of the City of Nedlands and most recently as the Chief Executive of the Law Society of Western Australia.
Mr Harding has served as CEO of the Shire of East Pilbara since 2020, and was previously the director of Infrastructure Services at the Shire of Serpentine-Jarrahdale.
City of Karratha Mayor Daniel Scott said he looked forward to working with the newly appointed members of the Audit Risk and Improvement Committee.
“This committee plays a critical role in providing independent oversight of the City’s financial management, governance and risk frameworks, and these appointments reflect our commitment to maintaining the highest standards of accountability and transparency,” Mayor Scott said.
“We are pleased to welcome individuals with such strong credentials and extensive experience across finance, governance and leadership, which will further strengthen the capability of the committee.
“This is an important part of ensuring the City continues to operate responsibly, manage risk effectively and deliver outcomes that are in the best interests of our community.”
