Top sports stars recognised at Community Sports Awards

Karratha’s top athletes and sporting associations have been recognised for their hard work and community spirit at this year’s Sports awards.

The City of Karratha Community Sports Awards were held on 31 October at the Red Earth Arts Precinct.

The annual City of Karratha Community Sports Awards acknowledge and celebrate the efforts and achievements of community sporting groups, recognising volunteers, players, officials and coaches.

This year’s awards featured nine categories with more than 100 nominees, with Brian Nguyen named Santos Sportsperson of the Year, while Isabel Chambers took out the Rio Tinto Junior Sportswoman of the Year and Yani Davis was named Woodside Energy Junior Sportsman of the Year.

Meanwhile, on the back of their NRL Community Rugby League Club of the Year award win, the Karratha Kangaroos took out the Rio Tinto Sporting Association of the year.

City of Karratha Mayor Daniel Scott said sporting groups in the City contribute to the liveability of the region.

“Congratulations to all winners and nominees of this year’s awards, and thank you to those who nominated players, officials and clubs,” Cr Scott said.

“Sport plays a vital role in our community, and every club and association contributes to this by promoting fitness and well-being while fostering connections among residents.

“These awards are a way of showing our thanks and recognising the hard work that goes into keeping our sporting community thriving.”
